Windows 11 comes bundled with several Microsoft apps that you may not have any need for, and it’s a real pain to get rid of them.
The best program I’ve found to do this so far is called the Windows Toolbox from Chris Titus Tech. It’s $10US, but I consider that a very fair bargain for what it does.

In this pick, I’m talking about the browser extension for Firefox and Chrome called “Control Panel for Twitter”. For those of us who must still use Twitter (now X) out of necessity, in addition to possibly posting more frequently on other Social Media like Mastodon, Threads, BlueSky, etc. this makes the experience of using Twitter much more pleasant.

This time around I’m going to mention a file transfer program I use from time to time called TeraCopy. It has a FREE version that I strongly recommend, particularly in situations where you are copying and pasting large amounts of data. WIth our computers now constantly connected to the internet, any vulnerability in any program could potentially be used as a way to access our computers, though most of the time it’s unlikely and targeted. That said, keeping programs up to date better ensures our computers remain reliable and secure.
My go-to is PatchMyPC, an all-in-one installer for hundreds of the most commonly used programs.

When removing unwanted programs in Windows 10 or 11, it’s a fairly straightforward process, but Windows isn’t very thorough in the way it does this and often leaves a lot of files behind that clutter up your computer, potentially taking up significant storage space over time. Instead, I recommend using Revo Uninstaller. The FREE version will do what you need.

Due to the nature of my work, I spend a lot of time in front of my computers, and do a LOT of time copying and pasting. For the longest time, I have first pasted into Notepad to strip out the formatting of the source, then copy and paste that into the program I want the text in. This is time consuming and tedious. Someone on a podcast recently suggested using PureText instead, and I love it!

This time, my pick is AirDroid! It is NOT FREE, but it is affordable. You install the program and app on your Windows computer and Android or iPhone, and they communicate with each other and allow you to control your phone from your computer, including the ability to send and receive text messages.
