System Cleanup Series: Setup Driver Booster

Windows 11-2024-01-03-16-05-43

This blog post is part 2 of a 3-part series that walks you through the steps I recommend to download, install, and set up Driver Booster. Perhaps more importantly, it's part of the System Cleanup process I do for clients.

To be clear, the FREE version contains upsell messages, but the program itself is solid and works well. You can ONLY update ONE drive at a time using the FREE version. A restart of your computer may be required after each restart. Driver updates are released often, so I strongly recommend purchasing the Pro version. A discount is usually offered for the first year.

This is part of my three-part How To Guide on downloading, installing, and using Driver Booster, which are part of my System Cleanup series.

After you download and install Driver Booster, as I detail in this blog post, this is the first screen you'll see when you open it. A big "scan" button.

If Driver Booster detects any driver updates available, you'll see a list of them. Generally there are quite a few if you've never used Driver Booster before.

Then click on "Settings".

I don't want Driver Booster running all of the time, so I uncheck "Minimize to system tray when program is closed". Driver updates are released often, and I don't want to be annoyed by every little update until I have the time to run the program.

I also uncheck "disable user account control warning". Although I trust Driver Booster, I don't feel comfortable with ANYTHING making system level changes to my computer without my consent EVERY time. Again, please uncheck this option.

Here's a close up of that.

In Settings, I go through the trouble relocating where downloaded drivers are stored and where backed up previous versions of drivers are stored. My main solid state drive is smaller than the hard drive I keep my personal files on, so I tell Driver Booster to use the hard drive instead.

As I said, Driver Booster offers a paid, fully featured PRO version, which I use and strongly recommend. They often offer discounts. The program makes it very easy to upgrade.

If you do choose to upgrade to the PRO version, you can click "activate now" in Driver Booster itself, and enter the code they emailed you.
