Kevin’s Picks: SkeetsApp for Bluesky (iOS and iPad)

What’s Bluesky, and Why Does It Matter?
Bluesky is a decentralized social media platform built with a focus on openness and user control. It’s still in its early stages, but the promise of a platform free from corporate control and algorithmic trickery is enough to grab attention. Think of it as the antidote to platforms overloaded with ads and shadowy algorithms deciding what you see.
That’s where Skeets comes in. This app takes Bluesky’s potential and packages it in a way that feels intuitive, fresh, and genuinely enjoyable to use.
What Makes Skeets Stand Out?
For starters, the app’s user experience is simple and smooth. Navigating Skeets feels natural, whether checking out someone’s profile, responding to posts (or “skeets,” as they’re called), or just scrolling through your feed.
It's also one of the most feature-rich third party Bluesky apps I've seen so far. It offers features not even Bluesky itself does yet.
Push Notifications
This is what caught my attention regarding Skeets. So far it's the ONLY Bluesky app (including Bluesky themselves) to offer push notifications, which is part of the paid features. That's one thing that was keeping me on Twitter for certain accounts that give very timely information that I rely on. Now I can do that with Bluesky. and thankfully those specific accounts are also on Bluesky. This feature allowed me to deactivated and stop using Twitter.
Why You Should Give It a Try
Skeets might be the change you're looking for if you’re tired of the same old social media experience—endless ads, algorithmically curated feeds, and a general lack of authenticity. It’s not just another app; it’s part of a movement toward a more open, user-focused internet.
Getting started is easy, especially if you’re already on Bluesky. And if you’re not, now might be the perfect time to explore what decentralized social media is all about. Skeets makes it easy to dive in and see why so many people are excited about Bluesky’s potential.
Have you tried Skeets or Bluesky yet? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
